Who and what is Gnoshmall - and Why?
Me and this Blog
My buddy Micha recently became obsessed with figuring out all thing SEO, and the impact of blogging etc. For a while I was interested, for a while I was bored by the inevitability of the direction of conversation ( no offense! ) and now I’ve come full circle to VERY interested.
I have several blogs already geared to specific topics and personas, and I’m going to retire them all and consolidate things right here. I’m interested in optimizing Typo for search engines. I have some web assets like Listingly.com which have had no effort put into their optimization so that changes now too.
The Persona Gnoshme
Why Gnoshme? Well why anything? The internet is a big place, and there are lots of “Keiths” out there, and after all these years there are even lots of “wumps”, but there is only one “Gnoshme!”. At time of choosing Googling “Gnoshme” showed no results! In this era when an internet identity can be a useful thing, I’m building a new one from scratch. Digg, Delicious and more - all to the Gnoshme tune.
Ruby on Rails Hosting
Something I want to know more about, so this blog ( and more of my stuff to come ) will be hosted on a slice of Slicehost.com. This is true Virtual server technology. You get NOTHING out of the box with an account except your choice of Linux install, and a root login. It’s just like having your own box. It allows me to dip my toe into server admin at a lower level, something I need to get an understanding of as groundwork for scaling my more important apps. It shouldn’t be too hard. I use Ubuntu/Xubuntu as OS on the desktop, so this all very familiar. In cases of dire emergency I can always call on my good friend Ben who’s a Rails and server Junkie. Hoping to get involved in some joint projects with him soon.
Me - Details
In a nutshell, born and raised in Ireland. University Education in England. First professional experiences in Brussels, Belgium. Married to an American I met there, and now living in Denver.
Two years ago I would have labeled myself a MIVAScript junkie having based my business on MIVAScript technologies for years, and also working for the company for a while. Now I’m a Ruby on Rails junkie.. quite a contrast.
What’s Important to Me
My family, technology, building trusted relationships and things with wheels. I’m currently overly obsessed with US politics, but that comes around about every four years, then I walk away in disgust at the idiocy of the US system.. It’s broken folks, but it’s the system, and it’s designed to not allow change.
I only see one man in the current line-up that can help the US out of the disaster it is in denial about being in, and that’s Ron Paul. I’ve backed him heavily to the best of my ability, but if anyone proves that the system is broken it’s Ron Paul. Most people resonate with his message - but most people are denied the joy of hearing it. In the Main Stream Media, he’s burried to surface occasionally when they see fit.
