there are only 10 kinds of people in this world..

In the Beginning

In the beginning I was in Brussels, Belgium, and local phone calls cost about 25c / minute to connect at 24baud. What a nightmare.

I was fishing around this thing called The World Wide Web that everyone was talking about and found a site called Tripod ( now owned by Lycos ) that allowed you to create a free page. Woopee.. so I went to sign up. The problem was that everything I could think of as a username was taken, so eventually, randomly, I chose “wump”. Two days later, with my page done, I thought.. I might as well register wump.com and host my own page.

Today

Today Wump Inc. lives in Denver and focuses on Ruby on Rails related development.

In between

Well lots really, but within that “lots” there was LOTS of MivaScript, the foundation of the Miva Merchant shopping cart application recently purchased by FindWhat Inc., and even more recently purchased back again by a bunch of nutters who are making a great go of it ;-) My own involvement with MIVA includes in chronological order:

  • MivaScript custom developer
  • Custom Miva Merchant store developer
  • 3rd Party Module Developer
  • Creator of MvCool.com ( now MivaCentral)
  • Director of Merchant Communities in the San Diego office of the Small Business Division of MIVA Inc.

At this stage, sadly, I remember about as much MivaScript as the Biology I learned in school age 15. Onward and upward, but I wouldn’t miss a San Diego Miva Merchant conference - no sir.
